For over 25 years, Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates have built relationships with all local land management agencies, including the City of Colorado Springs Parks Department, El Paso County Parks, the US Forest Service, the BLM, and Colorado State Parks. We work to be a resource for all these agencies any time a question comes up about mountain biking and trail use.

Advocacy

We keep in touch with the local land management agencies, like the US Forest Service, Colorado State Parks, the Colorado Springs Parks Department, and the El Paso County Parks Department. By maintaining good communication with the agencies which control our parks & forests, we help them avoid problems with mountain cyclists before they happen.

Trail Building

With today’s limited budgets, land management agencies are finding it harder and harder to build new trails for their users. Medicine Wheel steps in to help build trails that benefit all trail users and not just mountain bikers.

Trail Maintenance

We help to maintain trails for city, state and federal agencies in the Pikes Peak region, along with other volunteer groups throughout the area. Some of the areas we have helped maintain include Palmer Park, Ute Valley Park, Garden of the Gods Park, Cheyenne Mountain State Park, and trails throughout Pike National Forest.

Education & Outreach

We educate riders about being courteous to other trail users and about proper riding techniques and trail usage.

We are a Chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).

Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates is an active member of the IMBA Chapter family.

    wherever mountain bikes are ridden. Aligning with IMBA provides us with a broader reach and added “political clout”.
  • We have access to IMBA’s team of technical experts in trail design and building as well as government relations, legal assistance.
  • IMBA handles membership tracking, giving our staff and  volunteers more time to focus on on-the-ground projects and furthering our mission.
  • IMBA’s team of Regional Directors keep local Chapter leaders informed about national, state and regional issues that may effect mountain bike access.
  • IMBA’s biennial Summit provides an opportunity for chapter leaders and members to learn from other chapters and exchange information on a wide variety of topics effecting mountain biking.
