Jones Park .The USFS NEPA final assessment for Bear Creek was published in 2013. The property is now owned by El Paso County and we had a breakthrough with the county’s master plan. Location.
Palmer Park – MedWheel has performed trail repairs in this park since the beginning of our org.
OPPI – the Outdoor Pikes Peak Initiative. A regional planning process to address recreation and conservation.
Waldo Canyon. Re-imagine Waldo is complete and was a planning process outside the USFS normal processes. More work and USFS processes are ahead of us, with uncertain timelines. A recent breakthrough was a grant for the city of CS to reclaim the Black Canyon quarry which will provide trailhead access for Waldo. Location
Red Rock Canyon Open Space – 2023 trail changes. 6 project areas were impacted by trail improvements starting in Spring 2023. MedWheel and the Friends of Red Rocks provided input to all project areas. All work was completed by contractors. Some worked out better than others. Location.
Fountain Valley School – MedWheel delivered a trail plan that includes a race course on campus that will support many levels of racing, including high school and middle school events. Basic construction of the course is complete and Colorado High School MTB League races are ongoing. Location
CS Utilities North Slope Rec Area located off Pikes Peak Highway or Edlowe Road. MedWheel’s design for a reroute of the Limberpine trail was completed in 2024 using Colorado Springs LART funding.
MedWheel works on multiple projects with the USFS, including our adoption of the Buckhorn trail, where we perform repairs every year.
