Alan is a retired trial lawyer with a passion for mountain biking and hiking.
He is married to Jane Higbie who worked at Mt. Chalet for 25 years before retiring in 2019. They have two adult children (Charlie and Lisa).
Alan served with U.S. Army Security Agency as a linguist in West Berlin (1967-1971).
He graduated from San Mateo High School and the University of California, Berkeley.
Received a law degree from the University of San Francisco, School of Law.
Admitted to practice law in Colorado (1975) and in Alaska (1978) as well as federal courts.
Practiced law first in Colorado with Pikes Peak Legal Services and then civil and criminal trials for more than 6 years in Anchorage, Alaska. Concentrated exclusively on civil trial (insurance defense and plaintiff’s personal injury) work since returning to Colorado in 1984.
Was a partner with the Colorado Springs law firm of Melat, Pressman & Higbie, LLP until retired in 2017.
Member of 4th Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance (2005-2013).
Former board member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and LEAD Foundation.
Currently board member Friends of Stratton Open Space.
Joined Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates board of directors June 2019.
